A Quick Patch for SunBlogNuke v4.0 – 4.2

Updated: Please upgrade to v4.2.5 (Fixed Version 4.2.5 for SunBlogNuke Available Now) with fixing the issue mentioned below.

If you are focusing on our Ultimate DNN Blog Module – SunBlogNuke, you should know that some release v4.x (the latest version is 4.2 until now) are available with LOTS of awesome features, such as threaded comment and custom fields. If you have missed those so cool things please visit our website for more details.  Today we would like to release a quick patch for fix issue where the Flashy Rotating 3D Tag Cloud Widget disappear and you should find the issue when you click to “View All Tag” from the TagCloud Widget. Please follow up some simple steps below:

  1. Download the patch from here, unzip it in the local machine and you should find the fixed script file blog.common.js.
  2. Find out the JavaScript folder - $YourRoot/DesktopModules/SunBlog/js.
  3. Replace the original one with the patch file – blog.common.js.

Note that you need to backup the original one at first. Hope it makes sense.

SunBlogNuke v4.2 with Custom Field Taxonomies

Happy new year for everyone!

We hope you have been enjoying a happy, healthy holiday season and are looking forward to a prosperous year in 2011!

Today we are glad that the release v4.2 of Ultimate DNN blog module –  SunBlogNuke  is available for free upgrade. This release contains  a new awesome features with the high priority – Custom Fields (please refer to the post for more details and some guidelines to get started - Extend DNN Blog With Custom Fields), as well as some great enhancements, such as enhanced tag url with SEO and enhanced Content Slider Widget with external utility scripts and styles, like NivoSlider or bxSlider, with which to build your awesome content slider. In the mean time, we converted "Category Widget" into an optional module, which you can add into any page at any time and point it to any blog on the portal.  Soon the enhanced widget framework will be done and you will also easily develop your extended widget into your DotNetNuke blog. Please stay tuned :).

Major Highlights in v4.2:

  • ENH - Enhanced Content Slider Widget with external utility scripts and styles, like NivoSlider or bxSlider, with which to build your awesome content slider.
  • ENH - Supported custom fields and removed the thumbnail field in entry table.
  • ENH - Combined 'Edit Blog' panel into 'General' settings.
  • ENH - Supported ability to moderate comments in the post view.
  • ENH - Enhanced tag url with SEO, like http://yourdomain.com/blog/tag/yourtagslug.aspx.
  • ENH - Excluded the 'eNews' theme to make the install package smaller size.
  • ENH - Converted "Category Widget" into an optional module.
  • Lots of other fixes & enhancements.

NOTE: As with any release, we recommend you perform a complete file and database backup before performing any upgrade on a production website and that you first conduct a trial upgrade on a staging version of the site. Following these guidelines will ensure that you are able to recover if any unforeseen problems arise during the upgrade process.

Note that some issues may occur if your original version of SunBlogNuke is lower version, like 3.x, or you've developed your customized theme. Extend DNN Blog with Custom Fields

Finally our development team implemented the custom fields feature for Ultimate DNN Blog Module – SunBlogNuke in the upcoming version 4.2, which will be available soon. The use of custom fields will be one of the keys to SunBlogNuke's flexibility and endless possibilities. Essentially, all a Custom Field does is allow you to add extra pieces of data to individual DNN Blog posts that otherwise aren’t there by default. We hope that it will change the way people look at SunBlogNuke and rise in popularity of SunBlogNuke, too.  We’ll look at how to put custom fields into practice and continues to show you some potential uses of custom fields later. Hope it makes you easier or more productive to use custom fields.

Top DNN Blog Module – SunBlogNuke v4.1 Available Now

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!  Today we are glad that the fixed release v4.1 for for Ultimate DotNetNuke blog module –  SunBlogNuke is available for free upgrade. This release contains  some new awesome features which are the high priority feature requests, such as supporting the ability to import external blog data with blogML format (you can find more details about it in that tutorial – Migrating from WordPress to DNN Blog) and threaded (nested) comments (please refer to the post - Awesome Upcoming DNN Blog Feature: Threaded Comments), as well as great enhancements. Here I would like to thanks A LOT for Daniel Taft’s contribution and he had offered to improve the localization resources, which will make our  module easily friendly and understand. In the mean time, we followed Matt’s suggestion and converted "RecenteComments Widget" into an optional module, which you can add into any page at any time and point it to any blog on the portal. As usual, the complete details for all of the changes can be found in the Release Notes.

Major Highlights in v4.1:

  • ENH - Updated styles for all core themes with CSS Sprites.
  • ENH - Improved the fill-in tag process by providing the ability to view all tag when editing post.
  • ENH - Improved localization resources.
  • ENH - Implemented import feature with blogML format so that you can migrate external blog data, like Wordpress, to SunBlogNuke.
  • ENH - Supported threaded (nested) comments with specific levels deep.
  • ENH - Converted "RecenteComments Widget" into an optional module. Now you can add it into any page at any time and point it to any blog on the portal.
  • FIX - The SHARETHIS script broken when post title with double quotation marks.
  • Lots of other fixes & enhancements.

Awesome Upcoming DNN Blog Feature: Threaded Comments

Now we have been busy wrapping up development of the next version of the Blog module (4.1.0) and I would like to get some of the most pressing features included with this release, like import external blog data with blogML format (you can find more details about it in that post – Migrating from WordPress to DNN Blog). Here I prefer to share another awesome blog feature – threaded (nested) comment, which is included in the roadmap of Ultimate DNN Blog Module – SunBlogNuke and also lots of clients request from the time our blogging module born.  Have a look at how it actions below:

The Release Candidate v4.0 for DNN Blogging Module - SunBlogNuke

Today we are glad that the release candidate version 4.0 for Ultimate DotNetNuke blog module - SunBlogNuke is available for free upgrade finally. In this building we had taken lots of attentions on "Refactor". With refactor it will be able to extend more features easily. Plus, we make it stay flexible by reducing obstacles to changes so that you will respond to customers' requirements quickly. We hope that it will be the kind of beautiful, elegant and productive software. Also it includes some awesome features, like integration with Google reCAPTCHA, support for Vote Up/Vote Down and new theme configure process with providing thumbnail and preview feature. As usual, the complete details for all of the changes can be found in the Release Notes.

Major Highlights in v4.0:

  • ENH - Refactored theme configure process with providing thumbnail and preview feature.

Must-Read Note for SunBlogNuke v4.0

As you know, the Ultimate DNN Blog Module - SunBlogNuke v4.0 will be available to download for free upgrade. In this building we took more attentions on "Refactor". With refactor you will be able to extend more features easily. However, if you would like to upgrade it and also you ever developed any customized theme or did some customizations, you MUST modify all view files lightly, including BasicView.ascx, DetailView.ascx, CommentView.ascx, TagsView.ascx, SearchView.ascx, and PrintView.ascx. Otherwise the "Event Viewer" of your dnn website will be filled with lots of errors, like "Could not load type 'SunBlogNuke.Framework.PostViewBase'.". Actually that task will be so easy that just follow some simple following steps.

That is a brief buzz for our development team recently.

We are glad to tell you that our product is in active development and we are moving on as planned. Our guys are trying to enhance the Ultimate DNN Blog Module - SunBlogNuke and provide you the working and valuable product. In this stage we are focusing on the next building v4.0 in which we took more attentions on "Refactor". With refactor you will be able to extend more features easily. Plus, we make it stay flexible by reducing obstacles to changes so that you will respond to customers' requirements quickly. Tokens Replace Reference for SunBlogNuke

Starting with SunBlogNuke version 3.6.0, the blogging module full supports for dnn core token replace functionality that allows you to use replacement tokens inside your template of widgets like Content Slider Widget. This new feature provides a MUCH needed enhancement to the Ultimate DNN Blog Module - SunBlogNuke. You will find it very helpful and very powerful because you are able to completely customize their own different view from the available data. Today I am taking the time here to give you a brief overview of this awesome function.

Most Popular DNN Blogging Module – SunBlogNuke v3.7.8

Today we are glad that the monthly release v3.7.8 for Ultimate DotNetNuke blog module – SunBlogNuke is available for download. In this building we extended dnn core token replace functionality with more awesome & handy tokens and integrated with dnn core profile avatar. In the meant time, that is also a fixed and enhanced version with solving lots of issues and some performance optimizations.As usual, the complete details for all of the changes can be found in the Release Notes.

Major Highlights in v3.7.8:

  • Supported [coreprofilelink] token for blog users so that you can custom it with redirecting to dnn core profile page.
  • Integrated with dnn core profile avatar, which is available in DotNetNuke 5.3.x and later version.
  • Added alternate option to switch comments to Disqus, which is a 3rd party comment system.
  • Enhanced Content Slider Widget with supporting more flexible tokens like [ENTRYTEXT], [blog:title] & [author:avatarurl].
  • Enhanced edit post panel for better user experience.
  • Converted comment status "Reject" into "Delete" to fix issue that Rejected Actually Deletes the Comment from db.
  • Fixed issue where comments with links getting mangled sometimes.
  • Fixed issue where notification always sent no matter whether checked or unchecked in the assignment process.
  • Fixed issue where can not parse template - "Header in the Post" and permalink issue in the template.
