I go in the Widget Settings of Comment Widget and change the excerpt length to 1, but the same comment length displays. What is wrong?

It looks that the option was deprecated and we will remove it in the next building. Please use the following code in the template text: [SUMMARY|xx]. xx is the length you want to limit. Hope it helps.

Thank you, but this shows me an error "Error: Recent Discussion is currently unavailable." in the Latest Comments module.

It should work but make sure that you used this token correctly, such as [SUMMARY|125]. Hope it helps.
